OGDCL Revives Gas Output from Jand-1 Well in Attock

Gas-OGDCL

ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully restored gas production from the Jand-1 well in Attock district, marking a significant boost in output after years of disruption.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the company stated that the well is currently producing over 21 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas at a wellhead flowing pressure of 3,585 psi—three times higher than its previous production level of around 7 MMSCFD.

The Jand-1 well was initially brought online in 2019 via the Dakhni Gas Processing Plant but was later shut down due to mechanical failure caused by challenging downhole conditions and high hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) concentration, estimated at around 8%.

OGDCL said the revival was achieved through in-house technical expertise, involving the safe retrieval of damaged downhole equipment and restoration of well integrity under complex sour gas conditions. The well has now been recompleted using corrosion-resistant tubing designed for long-term, safe operations.

All activities were conducted in line with strict health, safety, and environmental standards, the company added.

As Pakistan’s largest exploration and production (E&P) company, OGDCL operates across the full upstream value chain, including exploration, drilling, production, and reservoir management. The company holds over 40% of the country’s awarded exploration acreage and is majority-owned by the Government of Pakistan.
